Nothing improves travel better than having the right equipment as shown here, exploring a glacier in Patagonia.
This Florida native was as comfortable as it was possible to be, thanks to the tips below.

Lawn Maintenance Services

  • A knit cap or ear cover and gloves flexible enough to manipulate your camera.
  • Layers - I recommend starting on top with a thin fleecy camisole (Cuddleduds work great) then, depending on the severity of the weather, adding long-sleeved silk underwear (so much nicer and easier to pack than thermals), a shirt and/or sweater.
  • For bottoms, silk long johns if the weather warrants, topped by wind and water resistant pants. Those from a golfer's rain suit work fine if you don't have a ski wardrobe. If you have the silk long johns almost any type of long pant will work.
  • Socks in various thicknesses: Many expedition ships supply boots that are C-D in width so you might need some padding in there.
  • Jackets - international orange or red so you can be seen - are also usually supplied. Bring only what you will need for before and after the cruise.
  • Designate separate pockets for tissue - your nose WILL run, lens cleaning cloth and plastic zip-lock bag for your camera - it can get splashy going from ship to shore in a zodiac.
  • A hiking pole or poles. Rocks, moss, lichens and ice are slippery, ground is uneven and poles will save you from many a fall. Collapsible poles are easier to pack but make sure they hold securely when set.
  • A sense of humor to accompany that of adventure; EVERYone looks like an orange-coated lollipop learning to walk.
